We thought we’d show you a simple but effective presentation book recently produced for an architecture degree student. This A3 landscape book is printed and hard bound, in our own London bindery, using yellow ‘library buckram’ cloth (‘540’ yellow). Being a cloth, the cover features a lovely textured pattern and gives the book protection, style and a feel of great quality.
The book also features black foil blocked lettering to the front cover. Traditional foil blocking also has the feel of embossing – or rather debossing as it’s pressed downwards – as it is a technique which involves high pressure being applied to the hot metal dies which, being pressurised, slightly indent the text it into the surface of the bookbinding cloth. (In contrast, Digital foiling, which we also have here at The Document Centre, is similar but without the pressure aspect. Therefore, although it foils in a quicker and cheaper way, it does not achieve the embossed/debossed effect associated with traditional foiling).
The interior of the A3 book featured lovely architectural drawings. We printed the internal pages using our in-house digital printing presses.
