QS World rankings header

The 2015/16 QS World University Rankings® were announced last week and it’s great to see so many UK universities ranking so high on the global stage. We’ve analysed the tables and, below, focus on where the UK uni’s rank internationally. Looking at the data we can see that UK institutions have done extremely well.

First, though, some quick stat’s:

  • It’s extremely encouraging to see that 40% of the top 10 universities in the world are UK institutions.
Within Europe, 70% of the top 10 universities are from the UK.
  • If you look at the top 20 universities in the world, 25% of them are UK universities.

  • In the top 50 in the world, 20% of them are UK institutions.
Within Europe, 44% of the top 50 universities are from the UK.
  • For the top 100 in the world, 18% of them are UK establishments.

Just for the record, for the world as a whole the winning spot went to MIT with Harvard coming a close second and then the first UK university (Cambridge) appears just one-tenth of a percentage point behind Harvard at position 3 globally. Our sincere congratulations go out to all of them.
